Living Simple
Hi, I'm new here and it looks like you have a great community. I am living pretty simply in a tiny house with a composting toilet system and a rainwater catchment system. I have forested land and did not want to tear up the natural vegetation by installing a septic system. Besides, toilets are the number one waste of water in the home. I have a blog about my adventures but I'm not allowed to post a link to it yet. I would be happy to answer any questions.
Thanks!

Re: Living Simple
Wow, that really shows commitment, there is no way I would give up a properly functioning toilet, but I would be interested to read your blog to find out about your 'living simple'

Re: Living Simple
My house is 288 sq ft and it has everything I need for now. I plan on doing quite a few things around here. This is a raw piece of land, so everything I do is from scratch, and mostly by myself. Downsizing and getting back to basics has been a wonderful experience. You can view my blog at

Re: Living Simple
Rocksmart, I will have a look at your blog, your lifestyle sounds very interesting. I live in the middle of a town so it will be a contrast to see what someone can do in a more remote setting.

Thanks, I hope to inspire others who want to do this but think they have to wait till everything is 'perfect' and all the stars are aligned. I say, you can do anything you want if you are determined enough!

I am very interested in what you are doing, but I disagree with you on one thing, determination is not enough. It really does depend where you live, there are a lot of things I can't do in a town because of planning and sanitation laws. Having said that it is inspiring to find out about people who have made big changes and there are always ideas that we can use too!

Re: Living Simple
rocketmart, Congratulations. Sounds like a lovely life. I agree with the toilet. I actually was reading on another site about flushing your toilet with grey water. I'm starting to introduce that idea into my household, it's not going over very well, but I'm determined to make it stick

Re: Living Simple
Depending on where we live, I'm sure we could all incorporate at least a few of the changes you made. I've noticed more apartment buildings in my city going green - geothermal energy, quick, convenient recycling facilities, etc.
