We at our home are using a solar panel for heating water. The overhead tank is connected to the panel with a tube through which waater passes in this and gets heated up. So the hot water that we get in our bathrooms is actually solar heated. This is a big save on electricity bills.
Even at night the water is quite warm.

No, but I think a solar powered house would fix a lot of energy problems!

I've been running a home on four panels for almost 20 years now, since 1988- a self-designed and self-built home involvoing passive solar principles in the design, which makes for a very comfortable and very cheap to run home.

Flat silicon PV panels are expensive per square meter and very inefficient. An Australian owned company is about to go public with an IPO in Germany with a new type of solar power system. It uses a parabolic system to concentrate the suns energy, and is not using silicon PV cells.

They will be able to power an average western home for less than ½ the price of a conventional flat panel system.

Are there any solar chargers that are strong enough to charge a laptop?

Unfortunately, we are renting at the moment; when we move into more permanent digs, we will definitely go solar as much as possible. My hubby (mostly) and I have done some research on the subject, and it is sounding better and better!

I have been living off grid for about ten years now and live quite comfortably on solar/wind system I never gave a thought to Pay back time. for me not being under a corperate thumb is why I went to solar.

Great to hear it offdagrid. Nice to see people making an impact in environmental awareness.

I live in an apartment too, so I really can't do anything.
