Smile new home builds and solar power

So i live in Arizona...the sun shines nearly every single day down here. I see the sprawl that is happening all around the area, and i mean massive sprawl thanks to KB Home, Centex and the like...My question or topic is....why, especially in Arizona...would anyone allow anyone to build new developments...without the use of solar panels?? I mean sure it will cost them more, and profits will be down..but for the love of God..you could build every single house down here to run from solar power. We have the technology, its right there and nobody seems to be using it. I have made my concerns aware to the many developers in community meetings and the like, but everyone seems to look at me like im crazy! Why? I think a little Monkey Wrenching is in order!!

It always comes down to the mighty buck doesn't it. It takes some shocking event to get people out of their comfort zone.It is just easier not to try, but keep making a stink , someone will eventually hear at least some of what you are saying. I know you must feel like you are batting your head against a wall. The type of construction makes a big difference in power consumption too. My brother has a home in Phoenix and it is built lower and looks more like adobe and it stays cooler if that is even possible there. How do you live in that heat? lol. I just about melt when I go there.

A number of years ago I saw a special about the actor Dennis Weaver's home It is quite grand but built with the environment in mind. I just looked it up to pass along here. It is quite interesting. I know he passed away and it was for sale , just a little out of MY price range, lol , but it is interesting and he did fight for environmental causes.

I think the builder should at least offer the option of adding solar pannels to the homes of the prospective buyers. Although the initial cost may be high, I think most people would be able to see how the cost will be off-set by rising gas and energy bills. Also I'm sure that if the option was mentioned, many people who haven't thought about solar panels before, would consider it.

The thing is I really don't think people realize how fast they would recoup if they went solar. I would thing that the value would only go up when you go to sell it if you had solar. Then again in this market does any house values go up.
