Has anyone build one? How expensive is it? does it make sense or is it better just go and buy one from the store?

Two days after my article on Wind Turbine Power was posted on “About my Planet”, The National Post published an article on a man in India – Mr. Tulsi Tanti – whose “wind power” company ‘Suzlon Energy Ltd’ has apparently made him the eighth richest man in India. (Kirby, J, National Post Financial pages, (FP 8), Wednesday September 27, 2006). Apparently, Mr. Tanti is expanding his business ventures mot only in North America, but also in Eastern Europe, China and Australia.

It seems that building wind turbines is not only good for the environment, but it is also quite lucrative. Jason Kirby’s article is quite interesting, definitely worth reading for anyone who has an interest on the logistics of wind turbines, and the financial aspects of building and maintaining them.

I have never built one from scratch however my parents are in the process this very moment of having one installed in their back yard. It is about 60 feet tall and has a small solar collector on it also. It cost them roughly $7000 US and they got a sizeable portion of grant money from the US government, If you would like more info on it I am sure they will pass on some more details to me if I ask them. Its estimated that at its current location it will provide at least 50% of the required electricity of the 5 person household on average over the course of the year.

That's great, if you could get us some more information that would be really helpfull... ie how much is the government helping... what kind of terms and also where they're located... because I'm sure these laws change from state to state... or province to province

I noticed another article you may find interesting… “Powering the Future” was in the Toronto Star on the first page of the Business Section (D) On Monday October 2nd, 2006.

As for the links… It’s a great idea… But I am one of those people who still read the actual “paper” when I read the news! (Preferably in my backyard) and I haven’t taken the time to search for the on-line links… sorry!

You could give us the info the old fashioned way: type it by hand! Or you could scan the article. I will be doing that later this evening for a couple of articles I found in today's paper. I'm lucky enough to read the paper far earlier than most.
