Things I don't understand: It talks about "Pico Hydro and Wind Turbines". I've searched this but haven't found anything specific about what "Pico" means.
I saw a Person Powered Pedal Generator on TV (amazingly they used an alternator from a wrecked vehicle!) but I can't find examples of the hydro, or wind powered generators. Never mind my tinkering side of me wants to see the Person powered generator in detail!

make sure it's a generator, not an modern alternator. I miss the old days when you didn't need a battery to start your car. Give it a wee push, pop the clutch and off you go.

Exactly why I want to know more. My understanding is that it is a modern alternator!!! The technology is state of the art, designed by a first class electrical engineering professor from Calgary. I imagine (without any reference) a single person from this foundation goes to a desperately poor region with a couple of backpacks and distrubutes this technology freely to people in need!!! Using readily available parts meshed with digtal controllers.

Or maybe I'm reading too much into this.

Well worth looking into. Think I'll be doing some studying. Let's face it, whatever we do better is less we do poorly. Seems trite but... what is, is.

Congratulations to your Dad! Wind power is just so basic; more and more people are "getting it". There are so many places in the country where windmills should be but are not yet. I live on the Oregon Coast and if there was ever a place that could sustain wind farms, this is it.

I love the idea of having a windmill, congrats to your dad. My friend was building their new house last year and wanted to include a small windmill, they were refused planning permission! I live in Scotland by the way. We have huge debates around at the moment about how they supposedly spoil the look of the countryside - personally I think they are a lot more attractive than the pillons we have now.
