Has anyone been on any good environmental/conservation volunteer programs in Europe?

I'm interested in doing something like that, and obviously I've done a bit of a web search, but I would be interested in actual recommendations.

I live in the UK, but would be interested to hear about Europe-wide projects, as they are within reasonable distance from here for a two to four week break.

I know there are a lot of sea turtle volunteer programs along the Mediterranean Coast -- you can find links to these on www.seaturtle.org/mtn/jobs -- some may even pay. They also have opportunities in Central/Latin America and SEA.

Yes, and I must say thank you too. Those look like really interesting links, I'll work my way through them.

I should have realised Greenpeace would do something - their website was a great source of information when I was doing research into nuclear power.

I'd love to go and work on some sort of conservation/environmental project. How far away doesn't matter either, as long as I can afford the fare.
