Hello,
I am a complete newbie, but your website caught my attention. I am currently attending college in Atlanta, Ga, but plan on moving to Hawaii in December. I am an english major, but have always been interested and concerned about our ever-threatened environment. Finding someway to incorporate the two has been a goal of mine recently. Anyway, as far as the idea for planting trees, I think it is a wonderful way for the "regular Joe," who may not have the means to help environmentally on a global scale, to feel they are contributing within their community. I found this website, which may have what you are looking for: http://www.arborday.org/programs/treecity/map.cfm |

I would also check out the Sierra Clubs announcements and myriad websites. I'm sure you will find something about groups that support, implement, and join together to plant trees. If you get some family or friends together, that might be a nice little project you could do together.
I know that a mentor group I was apart of in Houston (I now live outside of Dallas) got inner-city kids together to plant trees. The program wanted to teach the kids to give back to their community. I see this as an excellent way to get the young involved. It was called I Have a Dream-Houston. Rachel |

I would definitely do an internet search for tree planting in your specific area, because local organizations may also have programs of some sort. For instance, I know there are volunteer opportunities through the Chesapeake Bay Foundation here in DC.

Brinkman and Associates Reforestation Ltd.
This is a great company that does reforestation throughout BC , alaska and other areas. nothing wrong with volunteering, but believe me man, tree planting is damn hard work when you out there doing it. so why not get paid ? this is a great way to earn some cash over the summer and help the environment at the same time. Usually first timers are paid on a per tree basis, which can be good or bad depending on your skill level... |

It isn't just tree planting, but there is an organisation in Britain and abroad called WWOOF (World Wide opportunities on organic farms). Basically you work in return for board and lodging and the work you do is depended upon the farm you've applied to. A lot of these involve forestry and conservation (and you get to learn all sorts of new skills too)
