The Art of Bathing Every Other Day

You might look down on the idea of showering every other day, but it’s actually beneficial for your hair and skin. When you cleanse your skin too often it can become dry easily, because you’re washing away the natural oils that moisturize you. Also, if you have city water that contains chlorine for purification purposes, this will only add to the dryness. Showering every other day can bring moisture back into your hair and skin, and it’s also a simple way to conserve water.

Are you a person who showers at least once and maybe sometimes twice a day? Well, it’s going to take some time for you to get used to the feeling of not showering as often. However, showering every other day doesn’t mean neglecting basic hygiene. What you should do is cleanse the necessary parts of your body (face, underarms, etc.) with a washcloth. Although you can use baby wipes or feminine wipes, it’s best to use your washcloth since it can be reused. If you prefer showering every morning just to wake yourself up, purchase a facial cleanser that has an invigorating citrus fragrance. You can still use hot water just not gallons of it.

So how can you tackle greasy hair or oily skin? During the first week of trying to shower less often, you might feel oily. Use talcum free powders that contain cornstarch, arrowroot powder, clay and oat starch. Put the powder sparingly in your hair, especially if you have darker hair, because it might show up and make your hair look dull. You can also powder your skin.

What about bumps in your hair? An easy method of removing bumps from sleeping all night is to lightly spray down your hair with water and blow dry it back to normal. Guys with short hair will have an easier time with this, but girls might benefit from using a metal round brush to smooth everything out.

Over time you will get used to showering less often, and you can always incorporate perfume and scented hairsprays and products if you’re self-conscious. This is an easy way to conserve water, and you will probably notice an improvement in your hair and skin quality too.

My hairdresser always notices when I've washed my hair too often, because it gets dry. Another good thing about washing your hair every other day, if you're a girl who dyes her hair, is that the color fades at a slower pace!

I've done this unintentionally" when I decide to bathe after running errands or whatever. When I end up NOT bathing until next day (i.e., get home later than expected, etc.) it works out fine. However washing face, underarms, feet, and your more private areas does make a big difference.

When I shower every other day, I do quick sponge baths on the off days to wash my face, underarms, and private areas. I at least have to clean these areas of my body on a daily basis.
