This year instead
of taking your sweetie out to just any restaurant consider taking him/ her to a
local restaurant that cares about the environment as much as it does about its
customers. Finding the perfect heart-healthy, eco-friendly and people-friendly
restaurant for your Valentine’s Day dinner is easier than you think.
Search online
You could search
for a few local eco-friendly restaurants in the phone book or risk finding a
good one by word-of-mouth, but instead why not turn to the Internet for help.
Start with Happy Cow, which you can find here and then move on to Veg Dining,
which you can find here for more choices. If that isn’t enough try B4-U-Eat and
also Yelp.
Most of these
websites will contain a list an eco-friendly restaurants in your area in
addition to providing details about the sustainable practices of every restaurant’s
on the list. Restaurant details will also include: customer service reviews,
price average and restaurant style- if it serves vegan, vegetarian or organic,
etc. Most websites like the ones above will provide a quick key guide to help
you distinguish what type of restaurant it is. For example, at Veg Dining, VGN means Fully/Mostly Vegan. Other websites will provide a
link to the restaurants website and contact information for more details.
Still, if you find these websites are inadequate, use a search engine
for eco-friendly restaurants, organic restaurants, vegan restaurants,
vegetarian restaurants and so on.
Choose the perfect
one
To help you choose
which restaurant will suit you and you Valentine date best take a look at the
customer reviews. Price is important too. Are you interested in take out? Also,
you can’t forget about the type of food. What type of food do you want to see
on the menu? Would you like to eat vegan, vegetarian or whatever as long as it
is organic? Would you like your meals to be made with locally grown fruits and
vegetables? Does the restaurant’s sustainable practice matter to you? Does the
restaurant recycle, compost or conserve energy in any way? Would you be more
likely to visit a restaurant if you knew kitchen scraps were composted and
cooking oil was recycled into biodiesel? Would it bother you to go to a regular
restaurant so long as some vegetarian meals are on the menu? This type of menu
can be very helpful if you and your loved one can’t agree on a menu.
That’s it. That is
all it takes. It wasn’t difficult at all, was it?
