Homegrown herbs are more valuable than you might think. Although it’s common to flavor dishes with salt, it’s not necessary when you use herbs to bring out the natural flavor of the food. After all, sodium can wreak havoc on your heart, so maintaining a healthy state of being can start with the way you enhance your meals.

Drink in the Freshness

What makes herbs so wonderful is that they’re versatile. You can put them in drinks, meals, marinades, dips, etc. There really isn’t a limit on their possibilities. A great way to encourage yourself to drink more water is to add mint to your glass. Infused mint water can cost a bundle at the store, but you can create it at home, which will reduce your bottled water consumption. Then you can put it in a pitcher and fill up your reusable water bottle. Adding lemon or lime will make it even tastier.

Don’t forget to add basil to sun tea or create a customized version of vegetable juice with fresh veggies and herbs from your garden.

Herbal Remedies for Daily Meals

After you start incorporating herbs into your drinks, it’s time to take it to the next level. When it comes to fresh vegetables on the grill, rosemary and tarragon are the way to go. With a little lemon juice, your potatoes, carrots, asparagus, etc. will be delectable and too good to resist.

For pastas and pizza sauce, add fresh oregano to the sauce. When it comes to dips and marinades, try chives, parsley, dill, thyme, sage, etc. Dill and chives are perfect for sour cream based vegetable dips, and you can make a personalized version of hummus with lemon thyme.

Once your taste buds and olfactory system becomes accustomed to a variety of herbs, you will be able to experiment and have fun with mixing and matching herbs. Some herbs might even sound right for the dish like the lemon thyme and hummus combination. Even though your herb garden might be small right now, you can do quite a bit with whatever you’re growing, and you can always add plants and continue to grow them indoors.
