Tax season is rough on everyone, and if you’re not as organized as you should be, making the April 15 deadline might seem close to impossible. When you’re preparing your 2009 taxes, keep these eco-friendly relaxation tips in mind. Not only will these earth friendly methods preserve your sanity, but they will also enable you to focus your thoughts.

Sip an organic tea made with chamomile. The soothing aroma will help calm your nerves and put you in the right state of mind. Did you know that when you’re stress is on the rise, your immune system can be easily compromised? Instead of chamomile tea, maybe drink an immunity boosting green tea.

Diffuse an invigorating essential oil while you review your employment forms and receipts. Lavender is a naturally calming oil, but if you don’t enjoy this scent, there is a world of essential oils to choose from. Maybe try a citrus one like lemon or grapefruit, or you can go bolder with cinnamon, peppermint or eucalyptus. During the moments where the numbers are really pressing your nerves, dab a small amount of lavender or chamomile pure essential oil onto the inside of your wrists and temples.

Take a time out to do some yoga or basic stretching. Figuring out your income as well as your deductions can be an overwhelming brain teaser, so sometimes it’s best to step away from the process and come back in a more refreshed state of mind. Instead of taking a drive to the nearest fast food restaurant for a late night snack that is bad for your health and a waste of gasoline, engage in some gentle stretching. Even if you don’t know basic yoga poses, do those stretches that you learned in high school gym. Stretching will increase your body’s circulation and stimulate your nervous system, and this type of stress relief is non-toxic in comparison to having a smoke or drinking a few beers.

There are so many ways to procrastinate doing your taxes, but instead of wasting electricity to watch television or using your gas to go on a joy road, use these natural and eco-friendly stress relievers to get you through the tax season. Then you can put tax season behind you in no time.
