You’ve probably spent a lot of time figuring out ways to keep your Christmas season green, but what about New Years Eve? If you’re having a party, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to ring in the beginning of 2008 while keeping your green resolutions from 2007. Follow these simple tips for your New Year’s party:

Use E-vites: Don’t send out wasteful paper invitations; use evite.com to get the word out about your party. It’s easy to use predesigned templates to send via email. It imports all your names from your address book, it’s free and it helps you stay organized with everything else going on this time of year.

Ditch the plastic: Instead of buying plastic cups and plates, use your own. Not only does it reduce landfill waste, it looks nicer too! If you worry about your good china getting broken, right after the holidays is get great time to stock up on reduced holiday pattern plates, bowls, cups, etc.

Increase the ambiance: Candles can add to the mood of your party by softening the light, adding fragrance and reduce your energy usage at your soirée. Add candle wall sconces and table top candles to make sure the party is well lit and make sure they are placed out of reach of kids, pets and those who might be enjoying the party just a little too much!

Use the fireplace: The likelihood your house will get warm with all the extra people is a good thing the night of your party. Turn off the heat when it gets warm enough and if you have a fireplace, use that for extra heat.

Cut Back on the Cooking: Instead of wasting energy with warmers, chafing dishes and using the oven to keep your food warm. Instead, try to keep you menu to items that are uncooked like veggies or items that are served at room temperature. If you live in a cold climate, try using the outside as your refrigerator for the evening!
