The Alliance of Automobile Manufactures have joined forces with the states of California and Colorado (along with the Environmental Defense fund) who all participated in the launch of a nationwide consumer awareness program, EcoDriving, setting out to help consumers save money when driving automobiles, helping lower their fuel use along with the associated carbon dioxide emissions. So what exactly are 10 of the top automakers and the states of California and Colorado doing to help save the planet? Well according to Arnold, making the call for all red states and blues states to join together to be green states. Need more of an explanation? Keep reading.
So how do you become a green state? Apparently one driver at a time, by – you guessed it – subtly changing your driving habits and adjusting your car’s maintenance. EcoDriving, as described on the website is the subtle and simple changes each and every one of us can make to save ourselves money and reduce our individual carbon dioxide emissions. Were you hoping for something more informative or progressive out of EcoDriving? Sorry to disappoint, we did state that it was just a consumer awareness program.
EcoDriving goes on to ask if you, the individual, whether or not you are or would consider being an EcoDriver. As expected the website is filled with an EcoCalculator to figure out just how well you’re driving your car with regards to carbon emissions. Of course there are also helpful pointers on how you can improve your driving to be more sustainably efficient (which of course helps out your wallet in the end).
Whether or not you think this is a campaign by all the auto manufacturers to paint a little green over their greasy parts or a truly great initiative to lower our overall emissions, especially in a state know for their reliance on automobiles – we would hate to discourage the efforts made by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and hope they continue to develop more “green” cars. In the meantime if you’re interested in joining the effort, spreading the word, and posting links from your blog surf over to EcoDriving at www.ecodrivinusa.com.
