Green Clorox?

In the last few years, if you wanted to clean green you only had a few choices because the products were made by small companies or you had to make your own. So the news that Clorox has come out with a line of green cleaning products may excite or disappoint you.

It’s exciting because now the products are available to those who haven’t been exposed to the wonders of green cleaning. But it can be a disappointment to those who like supporting smaller companies. But , even that is arguable because some small companies are actually run, funded, or backed by large corporations anyway! So whether you are happy or disappointed with new of the new Clorox line, here are the products they offer in their new Green Works line – Bathroom Cleaner, All Purpose Cleaner, Toilet Bowl Cleaner, Glass and Surface Cleaner, and Natural Dilutable (think green Lysol).

Clorox, being the corporate heavy hitter, has also been given permission from The Sierra Club to use their logo on the products. "We hope we are transforming the marketplace by doing this," said Sierra Club executive director Carl Pope. "These products are clean, they're green, they're not going to hurt you, and they're not going to hurt the environment." Clorox claims that each of the products offered is at least 99% natural. Because the word “natural” is not regulated, skeptics may want to stay away until doing some of their own research. For example, instead of petroleum based ingredients, they are using components derived from corn and coconut oil and some consumers have issues with the production of additives from both crops.

Are the small companies worried? Perhaps, but the CEO of Seventh Generation had this to say about competition: New competitors will only help this category grow faster than it's been growing. The question is, do you want a big piece of a small pie or a small piece of a big pie? We absolutely want the pie to be as big as possible, even if we have a smaller slice. ... To address problems environmentally, we need to get other businesses involved."

It is good to see more companies trying to be greener. Not sure if I would buy their products though.

I think this is interesting. They are working on finding an ingredient to make it have disinfectant properties. There are alot of essential oils out there that does the trick. I already use green products that are also a disinfectant. Tea tree oil!

I am buying their products, because it is a start for me. My in laws have gone green at the cottage, but I hadn't given (enough) thought about it at home until recently. But I am trying green works, I like it, and will recommend it.
