Kazakhstan Entering Wind Energy Field

With a large percentage of the world’s fossil fuel supplies being in a few select countries, most countries globally import a large percentage for their energy needs. This one of the many reasons countries are implementing renewable energy. Now even more remote locations are increasing their presence in the renewable sector.

Kazakhstan would not be the first place one would think of relating to wind energy. However, the country is said to have significant potential for this energy while also needing to reduce their dependence on outside energy. The southern part of Kazakhstan currently attains most of their energy from northern Kazakhstan and surrounding countries.

In order to resolve this problem, a project to build two wind farms in the southern portion of the country has been proposed. The project will cost upwards of $1 billion and will add 600 megawatts of energy to the region. One wind farm will generate 200 megawatts while the other generates 400 megawatts. The project would be the first of its kind in the country.

The project is a collaboration between the Central Asia Green Power and the Kazakhstan company KEGOC. The plan is to go through a feasibility study and then construct the farms. The date is not known for when construction would begin, however, the farms would take approximately two years to build.
