We’ve all heard of green vehicles nowadays. Electric and hybrid cars have become so common, and everyone is talking about them. It’s good that more and more people are opting for such cars, but does it stop there? Do you think that just because you’ve purchased one of these environmentally friendly cars, you work stops there? While what you drive is important, what’s also important is how you drive, and the maintenance of your vehicle.
Aggressive driving is a big no-no. Don’t do this. If you floor the gas pedal, this wastes gas, as well as leads to contributing to the ever increasing environmental pollution. Just that minute of high powered driving can have affects, as the amount of emissions of carbon monoxide increase.
As far as possible, plan ahead. If you know you’re scheduled to make multiple stops while driving, try and slow down the vehicle in advance. Avoid braking hard, as this will lessen the wear and tear of your brakes and consequently will eat up less gas and thus less pollution.
It’s always advisable to follow speed limits, by doing so you should be able to lower your fuel economy by at least 10%, moreover tailpipe pollution of vehicles is reduced.
Walk where you can! Before taking out the car, ask yourself it its really necessary to take out the car.
Unload your car. You don’t need to travel everywhere with a cart full of stuff tucked in, in the cargo area. Spare a few minutes to unload your car from the cargo area.
If possible, try and avoid peak hours. With stop and go driving, you burn more gas and leave out more emissions that contribute to smog.
Whenever you can, and if its possible, run your car in high gears as this would decrease the rpm, which in turn would lower fuel usage as well as cause less damage to your engine.
Before switching on you air conditioner in the car, try and cool it by opening the windows and vents for a while. Using your air conditioner in your car eats up your fuel, not to mention that it increases Nox Emissions with certain vehicles.
