Researchers at Michigan State University and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) say that we could soon be using fiber from sterilized cow manure in products like fiberboard, which is used to make things like furniture and flooring. They say that the resulting products will not smell like manure. The USDA is dedicating $30,000 for an 18-month study that will test the strength and endurance of this proposed material.
Each year the US produces 1.5 2-trillion pounds of animal waste. Many diary farms spend $200 per cow, per year to dispose of its manure.
