In the world today, noise pollution is nothing new. Cars honking, cell phones ringing and not to mention the cacophony of human noises just everywhere. If you step out to a mall on a holiday, you'll know what I mean. The sad part is that we are so used to all this noise, that we don't even realize the increase in noise levels. It's very rare that we can actually find a quite and peaceful place.
What's worse is that this noise pollution has an adverse affect not only on us, but also on the environment. When its noisy we get more irritable, our blood pressure goes up, this could lead to various health issues such as cardiac problems, gastric problems, headaches etc. Our body gets stressed due to the immense noise levels and hence our health goes for a toss. Noise pollution could also lead to deafness.
The environment bears the brunt of this noise pollution as well. Noise disturbs the various breeding patterns of birds and animals, this could mean extinction as well. Studies have shown that aircraft noise have lead to the decrease of reproduction in a number of animals. This noise pollution also has a disastrous effect on some plants.
If each one does our bit in reducing noise levels that we contribute to, either knowingly or unknowingly, you'll be surprised at the decrease in noise pollution levels. So, what can you do?
Don't raise your voice unnecessarily Try avoiding unnecessary honking while driving. Impatience and honking go hand in hand, and your not going to get anywhere by being impatient. If you have dogs, try control their unnecessary barking. Sure music is relaxing, but loud music is not so for many around you.
Keep the ringer volume as low as possible. Do you really want everyone to know when someone's calling you? You don't need to let your neighbors know when your watching TV, and which program you like to watch. Control the volume of your television. The negative aspects of noise pollution are far to serious to both individuals and our environment, this cannot be taken lightly anymore and you must do your best to control the amount of din that you can. After all 'Silence is Golden', isn't it
