Towering geysers of water — regular, Earth-like, life-sustaining water — apparently erupt from a tiny moon of Saturn, scientists announced Thursday, declaring that the ”smashing, surprising” discovery carried them closer to the Holy Grail of science:
Evidence that life exists elsewhere in the universe and even in our own solar system.
”This is very cool,” said James Webb, an astronomer and a physics professor at Florida International University. “There is a real possibility that this is an abode for life.”
He and others framed the discovery as the most promising evidence yet developed that water and the life that requires it exist on other celestial objects.
