Very unique idea there.

I found a few other things on the last page that I will post links to. One of them is just plain stupid.

that is pretty wild.. then those people yelling about windmills killing birds will have to find something else to yell about…

I read somewhere yesterday or today that some guy had to move his family from their house near a wind farm that was making them sick, or so he claimed. The low frequency “sound” coming from the turbines made them sick and they couldn’t sleep at night. When this was investigated, nothing out of the ordinary showed up and the man’s claims were found to be unwarrranted.

Wow, that’s cool. I wonder how it holds up in storms though. Wouldn’t lightning completely destroy something like that? I guess if you live in a really sunny place but I don’t think I’d be great for places like where I live.

I dont know if lightning could destroy it, maybe when people build things like that they have that kind of thing factored into the construction, maybe its grounded somehow.

I dont suppose anyones found a way to harness the energy in a lightning bolt?

I think it would be really good out on the praries in the winter, provided the wind doesn’t carry it away. Given that it’s mostly flat country and very windy, just think of the energy that would produce.

Yeah I think that the fact that its designed to catch as much wind as possible would mean that it was designed to be strong enough not to be carried away by the wind (i hope) And I think it would help with that bat and bird killing problem too. It seems to be of less visual impact than a wind turbine also.

It looks like a “hair-brained” idea to me, but don’t let me stop you. I hope they proof me wrong!

This solution would seem to require significantly more attention than current wind mills to me. You would have to continually resupply helium to them and they just don’t appear as durable.

Well it looks like the helium is mostly just for the initial ascent. Its designed so that airflow keeps it up, so as long as its in the right spot, theres always some airflow. Of course I dont know the specifics of the way the helium is stored but I imagine it stays in there a while.

It also would appear that aircraft would have to steer clear of them. This would be another issue to overcome.

umm, i don’t think airflow holds it up. that’s just my opinion, man

That definitely is a very good idea. But I just had this image in my head that made me laugh. Imagine, in a big city every private home having one of these above it. LOL depending on how high they were can you imagine the trouble said air traffic control would be having let alone the planes flying in to land. But it is a good idea.
