Flat silicon PV panels are expensive per square meter and very inefficient. An Australian owned company is about to go public with an IPO in Germany with a new type of solar power system. It uses a parabolic system to concentrate the suns energy, and is not using silicon PV cells. They will be able to power an average western home for less than ½ the price of a conventional flat panel system. |

Are there any solar chargers that are strong enough to charge a laptop? |

Unfortunately, we are renting at the moment; when we move into more permanent digs, we will definitely go solar as much as possible. My hubby (mostly) and I have done some research on the subject, and it is sounding better and better! |

I have been living off grid for about ten years now and live quite comfortably on solar/wind system I never gave a thought to Pay back time. for me not being under a corperate thumb is why I went to solar. |

Great to hear it offdagrid. Nice to see people making an impact in environmental awareness. I live in an apartment too, so I really can’t do anything. |

It is something I have wanted to do for a long time, to be honest the thing that has held me back is the cost, I don’t have the money to make the necessary changes to my home and with the economy as it is I don’t see that changing in the near future. |

We’re hoping to move soon, and the new place (fingers crossed) has no mains electricity. It’s hte perfect opportunity to put a solar system in from scratch. |

Has anyone installed and is currently using solar panels/power to heat and or generate electricity for their home. I’m planning an addition to my home and I am interested in making it self sufficient and green. Solar seems to be the way to go, but it seems, like so many alt. energy sources,to be cost prohibitive. By my initial estimates with tax breaks that my state offers etc. it wood take 20 years to break even. Any info from a current solar user would be appreciated. Switching to solar power is a wise and positive decision that we are making towards protecting our environment. You can find information on the net on how to choose a link, guide on panels, inverters, batteries and contracts. Overall, it gives you all options necessary to build a safe and non-toxic home for you and the environment. For more details you can look into site. |

I use 2.5 amps of solar power. For remote uses you can put the solar panel in the sun to charge the battery while you‘re using the power unit to provide all day. |
