Part of it is the attitude of our disposable society and always needing the best and greatest model of whatever product. |

Part of it is that but part of it is down to the companies wanting their products not to be compatible with anything else, they see it as a way of keeping us loyal. |

Oh, definitely. It keeps us hooked in and we keep buying. It is corporate mentality. It’s why all those Occupy folks are out there now. |

Sony particularly are guilty of this. Most other companies are now working towards standardisation of chargers etc. but Sony insist on making all theirs different, and do the same with cameras and memory sticks etc. |

It won’t change unless people demand it, either. We all need to be more responsible shoppers. |

Stavy I am a big fan of Sony products and I have never had problems with compatibility. Sony Ericsson signed the Memorandum of Understanding (signed by 14 manufacturers), which commits the industry to provide charger compatibility on the basis of the micro-USB connector. So from this year European consumers are able to purchase a standard mobile phone charger for all data-enabled phones. |

People can demand all they like, things only change when governments force the issue. I am not a fan of EU but in this case they were right to insist on a standard phone charger. |

People can cause change, but they have to be willing to sacrifice for a bit to get that chance. Sadly, people don’t like to sacrifice. |
