This was news to me, and I’ve grown up enjoying home barbecues for years, but I goes charcoal emits Carbon dioxide. We’ve had a number of deaths regionally this year from people inhaling these emissions in enclosed spaces. When properly ventilated or outdoors, it’s fine, but all of these have been inside. I never knew about this before. I wonder if there is any harm to the environment from barbecuing?

It’s not great for the environment, but I don’t have any exact numbers on it. I learned that propane is better than charcoal a few months ago when I was researching for a blog post.

Perhaps it is a good thing that I don’t like barbecues. I am always afraid of food poisoning.

My parents always have a couple of barbecues in the summer. I only eat at them when my dad cooks, because he has a fancy barbecue and cooks my food on the vegetable shelf. (I’m vegetarian. I don’t ask him to make me special food, but he always does. He and my grandmothers always do, even though I tell them not to worry about it/ do extra work.)

I’ve always loved BBQs but we have them very sparingly. I just never knew about this factor of charcoals.

Propane is better for the environment, but I think people use charcoal because of the flavor.

My dad uses propane because it’s easier. He just fills the barbecue once a year and it’s good to go.

I don’t like the charcoal smell and taste, so that is another reason to stick with ‘normal’ cooking.

I don’t want propane tanks around. I’m just too cautious for things like that, especially considering how hot it gets here.

Lots of people here have gas barbecues, but I wouldn’t want one, I wouldn’t feel safe.

Yes, I feel a bit scared of gas barbecues, somehow it just doesn’t feel safe.

I’ve never really thought of it that way. I guess I just assumed that it wasn’t much more dangerous than charcoal grills or gas stoves.

I have a phobia about anything gas and anything that comes in a tank like that; I just don’t want it around.

I wouldn’t say that I have a phobia about such things, just a good instinct for keeping safe. I don’t want gas containers around my home.

on the rare occasions that we have a barbecue, we use the disposable type. They are cheap, no mess and the foil/metal parts can be recycled afterwards.

My sister brought over lighter fluid last year because she bought charcoals that required it. Now I’m stuck with this stuff sitting in my backyard and it makes me nervous.
