Our utility has a program where people can add “x” number of dollars to their bill to have some of their power come from solar and wind resources. Have you heard of this kind of thing where you are? |

I haven’t heard of it, no…. but it’s certainly an interesting concept if it catches on. |

I haven’t, but that’s an interesting concept. It reminds me of when people send a text to a certain number to donate money to something (like with the Haiti earthquake) and it gets added on the bill. But of course it’s slightly different if you get the money added on every month. |

I have not heard of this. It is nice to see such companies making an effort to use greener energy sources. |

That’s pretty much the idea, people helping people, as well as getting ‘green’ power out there, so to speak. |

I’m always glad when I see a “people helping people” thing going on… it should have caught on long ago and maybe things would be a little better now… but better late than never, I suppose. |

When you can afford to do it, I think it is absolutely the way to go. |

I have been seeing more online stores offer a similar option. Where they say to donate (a small amount) and it will go to a certain fund/organization. |

I haven’t noticed that as much online as I have elsewhere, but that’s a good thing to see the options out there. |

The greener types of online stores are doing this. If I remember correctly, it was Gaiam that I last saw do this. |

oh dear.. looks like i’m gonna be the dissenting voice… While its cool that places you shop from online, also allow you to make a ‘donation’ to green projects.. I personally think that it’s a bit of a cheek your water/electirc/gas supplier asks you to pay to have ‘some’ of your power from ‘green sources’ If they have the green sources online, then they should be supplying it as part of the service you already pay for. So in effect you are paying twice. I can just see British Gas or London Electricity trying to pulll that stunt… just call me contrary… |

That’s one of the reasons why I don’t do it, to be honest. It’s their rationale I guess that it costs more. |

I don’t do, nor would I do, donations like that to causes just because I’m shopping… I’d have to research the place. I see that as totally different from people helping people projects. |

I think companies of all kinds are just doing everything they can to try and spread their bottomline. They use it as a way to supposedly not up their rates. |
