I was watching the news and they were talking about gadgets that would probably be going away in the next 10 years since they are part of other things now. It got me thinking about small flip phones and portable GPS systems. These are part of smartphones and even regular cell phones now. What gadgets do you think might go away?

I can’t see sat navs vanishing any time soon. Many people prefer a separate sat nav to the one on the phone, the screen is more suitable for the car and it leaves the phone free.

I guess ordinary everyday cameras are on the way out. There will always be a place for the more high spec technical/professional cameras. However for everyday photos phone cameras are now more than adequate.

I think it will be interesting to see what does go away. I actually have wondered about it before even seeing this story.

I think house phones are going away. Nearly everyone I know uses cell phones instead of a house phone. And the ones I know have a house phone, uses VoIP instead of a regular land line.

I don’t think they will go away. I do know you are right about people cancelling landlines but at the same time, cell phones don’t work everywhere and for many, landlines are still preferred.

That is interesting oceangypsy, do you think that is because people will watch television on the internet instead?

mp3 players… now that practically every phone has an mp3 player as well as a camera why would you need one?

Not parting with my ipod though…

I think we’re a long long way from internet offering TV full time. A lot of folks don’t want to be glued to their computers.

True that many don’t want to watch TV on their computers. But soon more people will be able to watch internet streamed “TV” through their television sets.

I don’t use an mp3 player but other members of my family seem very attached to theirs despite having phones that would do much the same thing.

The good thing about watching television on a computer is being able to watch things at the time you choose.

It’ll be years down the road, though, in my opinion. There is too much involved in setup and reality.

I am with you there justontime. I rarely watch any shows at the time they are on. I either record or watch shows on the “on demand” channels.
