For those with dogs, do you have a dog food that you prefer and if so, why is it your favorite? |

I buy my dog Diamond brand chicken and rice formula. He has been on it for years. He is a medium sized dog and is doing great. He is also about 17 years old. |

Does your dog have any special dietary needs Orry Main? There are so many different types of dog foods out there. |

For a good health dog with no special diet needs, we usually use Ol’ Roy. I know its not the best dog food out there, but since we were a bit cash-strapped last time we had a dog, it was a good one for us. The dogs did like it too, so that was a plus. LOL My mom has a standard poodle & she’s had him on Beneful since he was a puppy. I don’t know if he’s got any special diet needs or if she just likes to spoil him. |

naturelf… does your dog eat that same stuff all the time? i know nothing about dogs so i’m not criticising, but wouldn’t he like a little variety? Or don’t dogs care about things like that? I’m just curious.. |

Usually not a good idea to change dog foods as this can cause digestive upset. We give him daily treats and he gets the occasional yummy scrap of meat when we eat meat. |

No allergies but one dog does have a sensitive stomach in some ways. And yeah, you don’t want to change their food as a rule and if you do, you want to introduce the new food gradually. |

Our dog eats whatever she is offered, we use several different dog food brands but she has vegetables and suitable table scraps with it. She loves to have a raw carrot to chew as a treat. |

My dogs will eat anything I give them, too, but I’m the one who needs to be responsible for them. I just know how my one dog acts when I change her food. She’s the only dog I’ve ever had who has responded like that though. |

My dog has a similar diet to the one justontime described, it suits her very well. She is healthy and the correct weight for her breed and size. Of course she still tries to eat anything disgusting that she finds in the street when I walk her, I am sure she does it to embarrass me! |

that’s interesting… so where variety is the spice of life for humans, it doesn’t work quite the same way for dogs. |

If the diet they are on is a suitable one then they will not have cravings for other foods. Of course the occasional treat is a good thing, for a little variety. |

I don’t agree natureelf I don’t think my dog has cravings, she just behaves like a dog and if she finds food she will eat it (unless I stop her). Especially if she is stealing it from the cat or from the bird table. Dogs do not just eat because they are hungry. |

It is true that dogs are scavengers and given the chance they will eat things that they find. Stavy I think dogs survived pretty well long before commercial dog food so logic suggests that they can usually cope with a varied diet. In my childhood our dog ate mostly what we ate (table scraps plus peat bought for her). I wouldn’t want my dog eating some of the junk that some humans consume! |
