Hmm interesting. Do you think you could recommend a filter for me? And how much do they usually cost?

We have a water cooler at home and buy the great big jugs for it. No chlorine in this. I use water from the tap for brushing teeth and cooking. Instead of buying lots of little bottles of water to take out with me, I refill a container that I bought. Some say bottled water has issues too but at least no chlorine.

The problem with those big bottles of water is that the water tends to sit in them for quite a while. True, there is no chlorine, but there are potentially more serious chemicals leaching out of the bottle. It’s a bit of a catch 22.

We go through our bottle of water fairly quickly and I think it’s still a better alternative than drinking chlorine. It also saves all those little bottles going to a landfill because we just fill up bottles to take out with us and bring them back home again.
What do you do about all of this?

Bottled water is actually bad for the enviroment. The majority of these bottles end up in a landfill and officals actually encourage people to drink tap water. link

So you would sooner drink tap water than buy a five gallon bottle of water and refill Nalprene (or however you spell it) bottles from it? I think it is a good alternative to buying tons of small bottles or drinking chlorine. I strongly believe that small steps are better than no steps at all.
What would be your solution?

yes i agree that it is better than drinking tons of the smaller bottles! i feel the best thing to do is to install filters on your existing water lines… virtually no waste except for a 6 month filter change…,

So would this apply to well water also? I am not sure if my well water is chlorinated at least as heavily as city water is.

You can easily remove chlorine from your drinking water, by letting it stand overnight – simply leave it in an unsealed container.

What would happen if you boiled rain water? Would that make it drinkable?

If it contains dangerous chemicals, the act of boiling would actually increase the concentration of the chemicals.

Water districts that find dangerous components in drinking water generally advise against boiling.

the only thing boiling water is good for, is to kill off any harmful bacteria that may be present in the water.
