I found this website and it seemed timely. Check out the Holiday Recycling Site. Links aren’t allowed her but it’s just the name. Hopefully, it’s okay to mention it.

Holiday recycling sounds like a good thing to look at, and I will see if I can find it. We have a lot of things from the gift exchange that can be and should be recycled somehow.

The more we do, the better it is for the planet.

Great tips there Orry. Thanks for sharing this site…I picked up some good ideas. :)
Some interesting stats listed also.

We were having this conversation at my parents home on Friday night. We were all smoothing out tissue paper and gift bags in an effort to save them. Pretty much everyone in our family sends out e cards now also.

One person at a time, one activity at a time: that’s all it takes.

I have saved our gift boxes to use again (even though they’ve already been used for a few years!) because they’re still in good shape. Couldn’t get anyone to open gifts slowly enough to save any paper, but it’s a start.

Every little bit helps! We don’t save tissue paper or wrapping paper, but we always save boxes, gift bags, and ribbons/ bows/package tie-ons. It’s better for the environment and it saves money. I don’t think my mom’s ever bought a gift bag, she just reuses them. You just need a place to store things (and don’t put stick-on tags or tape on gift bags, they are harder to reuse that way!)

I do not buy wrapping paper, only gift bags. And I rarely have to buy those as I have so many! We save tissue paper if it is not too wrinkled or torn.

Do you do the gift bags instead of wrapping for children on your gift list, too, natureelf, or just the adults?

I really think it makes a difference if you have little kids. I would hate to take away any of that magic.

This sounds like a good site. I will have to check it out. I have wanted to find some ways to recycle some of our holiday items that we have but just did not know how to do it.

We use very little wrapping paper, I just hate to throw it away. I find that the kids, at least my kids, don’t really care whether it is a gift bag or paper.

I’ve always enjoyed ripping the paper–not very eco-friendly, but very satisfying.

But gift bags are great because you can keep reusing them. The same goes for the fabric-type ribbon–a little more expensive to buy, but you can use them for years.

Hey look at this… I just found this old thread and sure enough, it’s time to start thinking about holiday recycling again. How does that happen?! Two days from October again!
