I am searching an answers for hybrid cars, I am interested in this topic and want to know everything about it, so how do hybrid cars help the environment? |

Since most hybrids run on batteries or hydrogen, there are less emissions put out into the environment. Besides being a gas saver, the idea of not spewing out toxic garbage from the exhaust pipe is a nice change for most people. Our transit system finally made the move to hybrid buses over the last year or so and it’s been decent I think. I don’t take transit anymore though, but I know it’s better. |

The general consensus is that hybrid cars will reduce your carbon footprint to some degree but that is generally more hype than fact. Yes; you will reduce your fuel emissions to some degree but that stands only if the vehicle is generally used in dense populated areas and typical commuter traffic. If you drive highway for the most part you will likely burn as much fuel as ever. This statement is also made in the light of studies that have shown that hybrid drivers often tend to drive more than average because they have this perception that their reduced emissions give them licence to drive more. Let’s talk about the car itself. It is a miners dream. All that copper for the electric motors and nickel for the batteries and other metals that go into the electronics has to be mined. Given that it is a new technology this will add a demand for the metals above the already growing demand so it means additional mining. Since a lot of todays cars are made of plastics and composite materials we are talking about a lot of chemical relased that go into the production of them such as dioxins that typicall come from plastic manufacturing and a lot of other nasties from fiberglass etc. The there is the cost of maintainance. As an old engineer once said; the more they take over the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain. With all the elctronic components and non user serviceable part on the car the more costly it is to fix. This is true for typical combustion driven vehicles as we know with inboard computers and cars that practically drive themselves. Unfortunately they don’t fix themselves. Just a few tidbits. If you are thinking of going electric you need to consider that the elctricity you use to charge your car is still mostly produced by coal and natural gas. Adding a demand for electricity by mass producing electric vehicle will only be beneficial if the majority of electricity is produce by water generation, solar or wind. These technologies also have their downside or negative environmental impact but we have to start somewhere. Even if you want to ride a bicycle or go back to the horse and buggy you will find a negative impact. It’s all a matter of degrees. Blessings and Good Luck Sim |

Hybrid Cars obtain numerous qualities that will slow down Greenhouse Gas emissions.They emit less amounts of gasoline, have a smaller sized engine, and recapture significant amounts of energy normally wasted during braking.These Hybrid Cars offer special tires that are inflated more; this trait makes the engine work less and provides a better grip to the driver. Moreover, the shape and aerodynamics of a vehicle improves gas mileage and handling at the same time. Hybrid Cars do this. These cars are efficient in city traffic with frequent stops and coasting times because the engine shuts down during these periods. Hybrid Cars run off a rechargeable battery and gasoline, opposed to gasoline alone. Hybrid batteries help to reduce fuel emissions because the hybrid engine draws on the battery, not gasoline when accelerating. |
