I think I usually have one kitchen bag every week, but it contains my recycling too since the city sorts that (theoretically). But I can’t say for sure– I just throw it in the dumpster when it’s full or gross. |

We generate much more waste than we used to. In the past we filled a standard wheelie bin in a week, now it is only half full in a fortnight (about 2 -3 black bags). We fill our cardboard recycling box every fortnight and we fill the plastic and metal recycling box every fortnight and usually we have an extra bag as well. We have very little glass to recycle and we fill a wheelie bin with garden/organic waste every four weeks. |

There are 5 of us on week days and 8 at weekends, we fill a black bin bag in a week. We recycle cans, plastic, paper, cardboard, glass, garden waste and compostable waste as all those things are collected from the kerb by the council either weekly or fortnightly. |

We have to pay for our garbage. I do not want to pay for an extra bag so I make sure to get the most out of my bags and only throw away things that need thrown away. |

There are 5 of us and we do not fill up our trash bin every week. On holidays and special occasions we do have more trash. |

We pay too. but not according to what we throw out, it is part of the Council Tax and based on house size. I think the thinf that has worked in getting people here to reduce what goes to landfill is the excellent provision of weekly recycling collections. |

i don’t know anyone now who doesn’t recycle as much as they can. The message is getting through and we all pretty much do it as a matter of course now.. |

That is true Stavy, and the local Councils in England (and I assume the rest of UK) are required to reduce landfill and promote recycling, so they have made recycling a very easy option. |

I wish everyone did but I do know folks who don’t think about it or have excuses for it. |

Here it would actually be harder not to recycle. We get a fortnightly black bin collection (for landfill) and they will only take what is in the wheelie bin. We get weekly recycling collections and they will take as much as we want to put out. |

I live in an apartment building & we go through a normal kitchen trash bag a day. I’m talking about 13 gallon trash cans, not the big black ones. I’d compost & recycle but most of our trash isn’t really recyclable here. Not that I know of anyway… We only have an aluminum & newspaper recycle bin. Since I don’t drink soda from cans, I don’t use the aluminum bin & I drop of my newspapers every time my bag gets full, about every 2 weeks or so. |

I can see that it must be more difficult for people in flats to cope with recycling, especially when there is poor provision of for recycling in the area. |
