Indoor pollution is a concern in the developed countries, where energy efficiency improvements sometimes make houses relatively airtight, reducing ventilation and raising pollutant levels. Indoor pollution problems can be subtle and do not always produce easily recognized impacts on health.Indoor pollution has increased due to a variety of reasons, including the construction of more tightly sealed buildings, reduced ventilation, the use of synthetic materials for building and furnishing and the use of chemical products, pesticides, and household care products. Indoor pollution can begin within the building or be drawn in from outdoors. ______________________ |

[FONT=Calibri]Problems of indoor air quality are recognized as important risk factors for human[FONT=Calibri] health in both low-income and middle- and high-income countries. Indoor [FONT=Calibri]air is also important because populations spend a substantial fraction of time [FONT=Calibri]within buildings. In residences, day-care centers, retirement homes and other [FONT=Calibri]special environments, indoor air pollution affects population groups that are particularly[FONT=Calibri] vulnerable due to their health status or age. Microbial pollution involves [FONT=Calibri]hundreds of species of bacteria and fungi that grow indoors when sufficient [FONT=Calibri]moisture is available. Exposure to microbial contaminants is clinically associated with respiratory symptoms, allergies, asthma and immunological reactions. ____________________________ |
