I did some looking around today since it was Black Friday and I found a solution to the problem of staying warm when you only need part of your house. The reviews were good for some and not so good for others, but there are personal and table top heaters out there. I didn’t want a space heater or something that I think is dangerous. I’ll let you know how it works out as I did buy one. People have said it saved a lot on the heating bill.

be interesting to see how it works out Orrymain… As you have dogs, make sure wherever you leave it, it can’t be knocked over..

That’s exactly why I wanted a table top one. My dogs are everywhere. I actually have a file cabinet directly behind me and I think that’s where I’m going to put it. The dogs never get there.

I have never heard of a table top one. That is interesting. About how big an area does it heat?

How about the cable etc? do you have a socket that is behind the cabinet, and not anywhere that the dogs (and you) can trip over it?

We just needed to buy another space heater a few weeks ago, but I haven’t seen a tabletop model. I’ll be interested to hear how it works. Parts of this house get so cold.

I’m afraid that no matter how safe any portable heater is rated to be, I don’t feel comfortable keeping it on when someone isn’t around, or certainly not overnight. Just putting that out there… I know you didn’t mean you keep it on those times. :-)

We have a little space heater that my hubby uses in his office. We do not leave it on all night. It is only on when he is at his desk.

I have no plans to have it on except when I’m right by it. I’m too skeptical and cautious. Yes, I have a power strip already there for other items. Dogs don’t come close to that area as a rule.

they might be attracted by the warmth on a cold day though Orrymain…

Be interesting to see how it goes… keep us posted :)

I too would not want to leave a space heater on for an extended amount of time. I am going to go look those up, have not seen them before.

The doggies can’t get to the file cabinet because of how everything is situated. However, depending on how it actually looks, I might just put it on my desk (which is actually a big table). I have cleared a nice space for it, away from papers and such. I’m still not sure, though.

well it will take some shifting about till you get it just how you like it.. i guess the fact that it is manouverable in this way is a plus point.

Just curious, how big is it? I am imagining it is like a small table lamp? Let us know how it works for you.

I received it the other day. It actually was pretty compact and would easily sit on the tabletop, no worse than having a computer or speaker or something. It was something like 7x7x4. Looked great. However, while the listing said you could put it on a table, the instruction booklet said not to (fall hazard). I don’t know that was valid or not, but I decided not to risk it. I have returned it and I ordered another one that actually has it pictured on a table and is even smaller. I don’t need the whole house heated, just where I’m sitting. I’ll keep you updated.
