Sometimes during the same they have a farmers market, but it’s only for a few hours at a time that doesn’t work for me either.

We have a farmers market up here also. Although, sadly, it is only during the summer months. I really miss it when it is over.

I love the farmers market. We just started having one locally. So much fun. We also have some local farms that run road side stands. Many of these grow their items in a organic manner. They are not certified due to the cost. It is great to be able to talk to the growers themselves.

I think I’m a little leery about that, too, the uncertified thing. I don’t know who these guys are.

It is important to talk to the grower. See what they say, do you get a good feel about what they are telling you? Often times, the smaller farms cannot afford to be certified organic, but they still grow in an organic fashion.

It’s that gut reaction, what your intuition tells you, and first impressions. Those all combine to work in this case.

This is interesting. I would think that most people buy conventional foods because they are in the habit of buying conventional foods.

i use my local farmers market all the time, and most of them are too small for certification… but the food definitely tastes better..

Well maybe someday I’ll have the chance to find out on a regular basis. I just don’t even know much about farmer’s markets. They aren’t close that’s for sure.

Orrymain, I am curious as to where you live exactly, if you don’t mind me asking. Just that there seems to be nothing around you anywhere. I have this picture in my mind of you living in the middle of a wilderness, with the mailman coming by once a month and the nearest neighbour a 7 hour drive away, and the doctor arriving by plane when you need a house call..

LOL stavy…….we are not even that remote! I do have to admit that our nearest shopping mall is 45 miles away. We do have many smaller stores locally.
