Hybrid cars are the cards that run both on gasoline and another alternate fuel. like e.g. gasoline+ hydrogen fuel cell, gasoline + electric, gasoline+ natural gas and many more.

Thanks Timothy for taking time to explain hybrid cars. It was a very new word to me too. I wonder how could a car run on two different fuels. Hmm, the wonders of science, perhaps ;)

This is used two or more distinct power sources to move the vehicle.
Hybrid cars are made with a gas engine, an electric motor and a high powered battery. The battery provides energy to the electric motor, which recharges by recapturing energy that normally would be lost when decelerating. When it is needed, power from the gas engine can be used to also recharge the battery. Since the hybrid car recharges in these ways, it does not ever need to be plugged in. if you are looking to save money on gasoline then Hybrid cars is best for you.

Benefits of Hyrid Cars:

1.Hybrids combine clean energy of the electrical motor with the power of the gas-powered engine which results into lower emissions and better mileage.

2.Thanks to the ever improving technology, hybrids perform at par with the normal ga-powered vehicles, if not better.

3. Hybrids are reliable and comfortable as any traditional car and they have a tax benefits(only till 2006).

4.There are purchase incentives for Hybrid vehicle owners (varies by state).

5. Hybrids are much cleaner cars than normal vehicles with lesser CO and other greenhouse gas emissions.

6. Hybrids provide a better mileage.

7.The future for hybrids looks bright with rapid developments in hybrid technology to improve engine efficiency.

8.Due to the Regenerative Braking technology, the batteries need not be charged by an external source.

9.Special warranties are provided for the battery pack, the electric motor other costly items.

10. Hybrids help reduce the dependency on fossil fuels which directely affects fuel prices.

Hyrbids get better mileage than SmartCars, however it seems the latter has more sales. Would this be the cost of buying a hybrid car that’s causing it?

Benefits of hybrid cars is that they use less gasoline than ordinary cars. Hybrid car owners get more miles to the gallon, which means less expense for the owner, fewer natural resources used up, and less reliance on foreign fuel sources. If everyone switched to hybrid cars we could reduce fuel consumption in the United States by 20 percent, which is a highly significant amount.Use of hybrid cars will reduce both air pollution and noise pollution significantly.

A hybrid car features a small fuel-efficient gas engine combined with an electric motor that assists the engine when accelerating. The electric motor is powered by batteries that recharge automatically while you drive. There are two types of gasoline-electric hybrid cars: the parallel hybrid and the series hybrid. In a parallel hybrid car, a gasoline engine and an electric motor work together to move the car forward, while in a series hybrid the gasoline engine either directly powers an electric motor that powers the vehicle or charges batteries that will power the motor.

True that there is no end to the wonders science can do. Even I did not know about this word until I read this thread. Umm, looks like this forum is a storehouse of knowledge ;)

Hybrid cars are designed for new generation with advanced technology…
It runs both on petrol and another alternate fuel like battery….
