The best way to do it (for me at least) has always been just to toss the cloth bags into the trunk of the car as soon as I’m done unloading the groceries. Before I started doing that I could never remember them and had to keep buying more which kind of defeats the purpose!

I use string bags because they take up very little space, and keep them in my handbag. As soon as I’ve unloaded them, I put them back. I also keep a couple of old plastic carriers in the car, so I’m never caught without.

I finally got some cloth bags made. When I go to the store I now use them. The thing I like about the most is I know they will never break a plastic bags will. I also recycle all of my aluminum cans. Our trash company doesn’t do recycling of other items yet within our mobile home court. They keep saying they’re going to put in a recycling bin but have not so far.

Cloth bags really are of a better quality than plastic ones as well. I found that since I’ve made the switch I’m a much bigger fan of them. They are sturdier, hold more and are much better for the environment. It’s really win-win.

I have always tried to buy local. The food is not only better but I love the idea that I am helping the local community. I agree with the cloth bags also. We have four that we take with us whenever we go to the store. I figure in the end each time I go that is four less plastic bags the I am not using.

Now, if we just get the rest of the world to do the same thing, we will probably put plastic bag production in the hole.

We are currently planting a garden with tons of vegetables. We usually can enough tomatoes to get us through the winter and we make lots of salsa.
We have been using eco sense cleaning supplies and laundry detergent. All the supplies and detergents are concentrated so we use less plastic containers and they will not harm the environment.

Since plastic is so damaging to our tiny planet, I’ve opted to bring my own reusable bags to the grocery store.

I recently invested in Brita filter and a kleen Kanteen so no more plastic bottle waste for me!
