Every Jan and Feb our gas/electric company gives a percentage off if folks use less energy than they did the prior Jan/Feb. Now the first two years were a snap, but I really didn’t think I had a chance this year. I use next to nothing as it is, so I was surprised when I got the bill today and found out I still made it. Somehow, I used less than last year. I am amazed. I guess I have to credit that tabletop heater and sensor lights again. I don’t know what else could explain it.

Good job! Saving the environment and money at the same time is great :-)

I could have used a tabletop heater when I went to school in the Pacific NW. It got cold there sometimes, and I’m a wimp about that kind of thing because I’m from Southern California.

Yeah, when it gets too cold, it’s bad. The older I get the more the cold affects me.

I think that’s true for a lot of people. My dad used to never wear long sleeves because he’d get too warm, but now he’ll wear sweatshirts and sweaters all of the time.

I like cold weather because I can get under my blankets. I do a lot worse when it’s hot and sunny.

Oh I definitely prefer the cold to the heat because it’s easier to warm up than cool down for sure. It’s just I have noticed that the cold affects me more every year.

I can see how getting cold more easily as you get older would happen. I’ve noticed it with some of my relatives.

Well whatever you did keep up the good work. I love it when I open up a bill and see a smaller bill than what I expected. That makes my day so much.

That is great news OrryMain! That is a great incentive to really watch ones usage habits.

Definitely. I always have to stretch my dollars as far as they will go so I was quite pleased when I opened this one.

What are some of your tips to save a few bucks? Can you share them with us?

I just do common sense stuff. I unplug things not in use, always turn out the lights when leaving a room, and I’ve made my house utilities much less with the table top heaters, the sensor lights, and on a bigger scale, the whole house fan. I have a wonderful pair of Australian woollys that really help to keep me warm.

I am going to share this with my kids. I think it would be a fun challenge for them. I need to find out if our utilities company does the same.

Our company has been doing this for several years now with apparent good success.

My bill shouldn’t be too bad… I don’t even have lighting for half of my apartment (which is quite inconvenient actually).

I haven’t had to use the heat or the air all month. Southern California has nice enough weather where I’ve been able to be comfortable by either opening a window or getting under some blankets. It won’t be so easy to escape the heat in the summer though.
