Earth Day will be celebrated for the 40th time on Thursday, April 22. So how are you planning on honoring nature and what are you doing to treat the planet better? If you don’t have anything scheduled yet, consider going to climate rally in Washington, D.C. This will give you a chance to network with other individuals interested in making a difference in the world, and you might even learn other ways to carry out a green lifestyle.
The Earth Day Network is hosting this rally on Sunday, April 25. The goal of the rally will be to catch the attention of Congress and demand that the comprehensive climate bill be passed this year. This objective of this climate bill is to provide more jobs for Americans, restrict carbon emissions and overall direct the nation into a more sustainable future.
Even if you can’t attend this rally, you can still support Earth Day in other ways.
- You can learn more about the environmental movement by watching the PBS documentary titled “Earth Days.” The show will focus on nine Americans and their perspectives. Or you can simply Google the history of Earth Day to understand when it started and how it has evolved.
- Inspire K-12 students during National Environmental Education Week (April 11-17) by getting them involved in fun eco-friendly activities such as gardening or recycling. If your local school already has plans, extend the environmental education into the home with your child.
- Visit a chain of the Buffalo Exchange on April 24, which sells recycled clothing. Some of their proceeds will be going to the Humane Society’s project to save animals from injury and death due to litter. Also, ask your local stores if they will be giving any donations so you know which ones to support.
- Shop the Mile High Marketplace in Denver, Co. and enjoy the first GreenMarket Festival on April 17-18. This can open your eyes to a world of green.
Finding some way to celebrate Earth Day is important, and it will also teach you and others around you to have appreciation and respect for the beautiful world that surrounds us.
