Want Solar? Go to Sam’s Club

Buying Solar power just got easier for Southern California Residences, who will now be able to make purchases from their local Sam’s Club. The wholesale division of Wal-Mart Stores, Sam’s Club, announced in August that there soon will be Home Efficiency Centers in nine of their Southern California Clubs. Each of the centers will contain both products and appliances that will help local consumers with energy efficiency, water conservation, and their desire to make their homes and small businesses more “green” generally. Along with the extra aisle or so designated to the Centers, live video chats will take place in the stores with reps who can call about their products. The following cities will be equipped with the Home Efficiency Centers: Chino, Corona, Fountain Valley, Glendora, La Habra, Long Beach, Murrieta, Ontario and Torrance.

Solar Panels will be the highlight of the products available for interested consumers, made possible through a partnership with several different installers including Borrego Solar and BP Solar. The cost savings available out of the Sam’s Club Warehouse will be $100 off each kilowatt of installed power, which is small when compared to the instillation of one kilowatt, often costing up to $10,000. Not much in total, but it does mean some savings for those willing to make their way down to Sam's Club. It should also be noted that this number does not take into account some of the tax credits currently available to California Residences making an investment in solar. As the old solar adage seems to run, Borrego plans on selling potential customers on the future savings, quoting that a $35k system can save homeowners $96k over the life of the panels.

In addition to solar, some of the other items that will be available in the Home Efficiency centers include: Dual Flush Toilets, LED Light Bulbs, Motion Activated Porch Lights, and Energy Star Appliances. No word as of yet whether the company is intent on expanding their Home Efficiency Centers any further, but we remain positive that they will make the move to do so sometime in the near future.
