I'm concerned about living in a building where so many people smoke. I'm wondering how common it is to find apartment buildings in Canada where smoking is banned, and is this enforceable?

Pacific Northwest

I can't say about Canada, but just below BC in Washington and Oregon there are many landlords who don't allow smoking inside the rented premises. On a rainy day you see many a tenant standing under the eaves, shivering and smoking.

It's so sad... but I'm glad to see that the government has taken such big steps to get rid of smoking I think another 10 years and they will be illegal here in Canada...

Common areas yes...

Common areas are typically non smoking but I don't think they can enforce no smoking within your own home...

It depends on the definition of privacy

According to the Federal law of your home nation. In the US, there are currently 4 cases headed to the Supreme Court on this issue. I hope those claiming it violates their privacy win.
