I know this type of energy is still untapped and though we all know a lot about solar energy, geothermal energy is not something widely known. How can we use it more at homes?

Yes you can.

You have to purchase a system from a company and they'll set it up... 10-15k... and it's free cooling and heating throughout your house... they have to do tests on your soil first to see if they can dig deep enough and if it will work.

Look towards our European cousins

They have been doing quite extensive work with geothermal energy and there's a lot on the web about it if you drill down a ways. Often they are tapping entire fields of geothermal "wells" for neighborhoods.
