Partly There

Solar panels will only absorb so many electrons before they begin to bounce off. Solar panels become less effective as they get hotter as well. The act of focusing the sun into such a small spot would render a single cell ineffective.

You could use the lens to focus the light into a fiber optic cable, run it into a building providing indoor natural sunlight with out the heat. This could be piped directly onto plants placed into say a basement. This would of course use not external power. You could use a sun tracking system if you really wanted to. Have the lenses rack the sun throughout the day making them much more effective.

Thanks for answer... and you're totally right there are the limits set by the panel efficiency. Do you think focusing light into a fiber cable would be usable? It's a great idea.
The biggest problem is that a Fresnel Lense creates unbelievable heat at the focus point. It might melt the cable.

With solar panels?

Perhaps using it to focus more light on a solar panel to generate more electricity? Here is a link -> http://patron.ucop.edu/ncd/docs/ott.2007-359-0.00.html

I believe it's a similar idea to the solar power tower where they use mirrors to reflect the light to a single source and then boil the water to generate electricity.
