I know that some fellow Canadians think it's great that Obama will try to reduce the US dependency on foreign oil by getting some from our Alberta tar sands. However, the tar sands projects have caused considerable environmental damage. Frankly, I'm a litle disappointed. I thought the point was to reduce dependency on oil in general!

Where ever you get it it's bad...
I think it's better to get it here from Canada if it's short term... we need to keep the money in north america so we can rebuild a new energy infrastructure that's eco friendly... money has to come from somewhere so if you start keeping it here in the long run it should be better I think.

Transitional plans
I think that Pres O is looking toward a transitional strategy that will mitigate current dependency. It isn't going to change overnight, sadly, but the more we can diversify sources the more options available.
