Twiceshy asks:New Places to invest

It looks like the stock market is recovering a bit, and Obama's plans for public works projects and converting the US to alternative energy will be reality.

Has anyone found any alternative energy companies being publicly traded in the stock market yet?

I'd hate to invest in an established stock if I can find one in an industry that will yield more profit, and most wealthy people get in on the ground floor of new technologies.

Any tips?

There are a few

Acciona Solar Power (builders of the "Solar One" system in Nevada, U.S.A.) shows a lot of promise, and the choices are many in all areas of alternative energy technology. We are not well educated in the geothermal or tidal areas, but it certainly seems like the future very "bright" for new start-up companies in that field.

New Places To Invest?

I suggest holding off for a bit. A few new companies should emerge as companies to watch. If you can, look for companies listed as part of a mutual fund, to help balance your risk with your cost.

Taking the risk...

I think I'd cross my fingers and invest in bicycle companies (or a local, thriving bike shop), hydroponics, and cloth companies that sell organic cotton, canvas, denim, and gauze. Like they say, there's money to be made in economic downturns. I'd hope that these companies would prosper in such times.

I think you are right.

I think you are right, there are two sector that will lead the recovery, which are green technologies, and the rebuilding of american infastructure.

I agree with Sagemother

I think that you should hold off a bit. This alternative energy drive (for companies) is really just starting to take off.

If you have the money to risk...

I'd want to get in the ground floor of these alternate companies, and if successful, you've got some very valuable stock. Just think of the investors who thought that kid Bill Gates could have a good idea there...
