...has anyone made available a method to harness the pedal-power we use on the exercise bikes, maybe storing electricity in a battery, something like that?

Google "pedal power"

And "pedal generators". There is lots to choose from. We also wondered if anyone has installed hydro-generators at the outlets of city water towers.

Good question

I never considered the option of harnessing pedal power so, of course, of never heard of such an invention.

i had a hamster

doing just the thing you asked... tho it was a miniscule bulb that was attached to it's exercise wheel...

and wait a scond! doesn't this remind anyone of the matrix' conspiracy concept... maybe some sinister initiatives are putting these into our minds with the ultimate goal of turning humans into sustained power-cells! ...what ever the fuss, this thing you mention is something quiet unfeasible if you plan on doing it to make electricity for running your home appliances; and if you are keen on finding a rotational device that is able to generate usable electricity for your home, you sohuld look into the wind power.
