Twiceshy asks:Using the Tides...

With all of the plans for alternative energy development, Obama's goals don't seem to include research into tidal energy as one of the alternatives.

Why do you think this isn't on the list?

Tides and alternative energy?

It seems like we need a smarter, nationwide grid in place before we start looking at tides to generate some of our energy.

It would be good to get construction of tide powered generators started, though. Then, all that need be done is hooking the rest of the grid in!

Cost is a factor

The use of tidal generators is viable, no doubt about the science behind it, but it will be extremely costly to put the mechanisms in place and devise a safe and reliable way to get the power from the generators to the grid. This doesn't mean it should not be done, but it explains why we aren't currently doing it.

Popularity of Solar and Wind..

Solar and wind are popular right now and are semi emerged alternative energies... they will be investing 15b a year into r&d so I'm sure they'll be looking at all possibilities and I agree tidal energy is amazing... sitting by the ocean just shows you that every 10 seconds a wave hits it could be generating tons of energy...
