stavy asks:Wind Farms

Would you mind if a wind farm was built in your neighbourhood? Would you rejoice inthe benefits of cheap eco friendly power on your doorstep, or would you protest that it would blight your view, and move immediately?!

Their are pros and cons

Stavy i know that for the generation of electricity there is required quite a large number of wind turbines and that may lead to usage of a large area and quite a clutter if we are residing in that area. But modern wind trubines have become so strong that the wind farm need not be like a typical crop farm...all in one place. It is actually feasible to have a whole city generate electricity through wind if the flow is quite good and the spacing of the turbines done in such a way that they do not look bad at all or an obstruction. Don't we live with huge tc towers and cell phone towers....then why not with wind turbines too that are actually for the universal good.

Wind Power generation

Is a wonderful, but noisy, provider of electricity. Solar is also great, and silent, but more costly per kilowatt. So we may have to choose between quiet, peaceful power, or cheaper, more intrusive wind power. The main thing is to move away from carbon-based fuels for energy.

bring it on

I live in an area that has wind to spare. We would be an ideal candidate for a wind farm. I suggest they set up a huge one on the land they clear-cut.

the world's largest

wind farm is being built off the Coast of the UK, called the 'London Array'. It is 12 miles out so won't actually really be a blight or annoyance. Phase one will consist of 175 turbines.. with a total of 341 turbines eventually planned, which will supply 750,000 homes with all their electricty needs by 2015

That is wonderful! I wish I knew why the US has to be so backward in this kind of applied technology. We can learn alot from the UK!

Part of UK

Government’s target of providing 15.4% of all electricity supply from renewable sources by 2015. They say that thee London Array will provide about 7% of that 15.4%

I would be happy

I would rejoice the moment that I have find out that my neighborhood is using a wind turbine to generate electricity. I think that I would ask them on how can I avail of the this electricity flowing through my home

I want to contribute against the fight on Global Warming.
