If so, what do they say? To they accuse you of a superior attitude or smugness? Is there possibly some truth to what they are saying?

Are you being smug?

If you are being overly self-righteous or trying to force your beliefs on others, they can react poorly. Check to make sure that isn't the case.

not me but a friend does ...

I haven't been made fun of for being green, but my best friend's boss makes fun of her for recycling all the time. He brought her this article about this guy who is trying to reduce pollution and collect recylable materials to build a boat because 5 million tons of trash are dumped in the ocean every year. He thought it was stupid. *sigh*

Those who scoff...

I find that by and large they are people who only are comforted by absolutes and have no sense of incrementally mitigating a problem, especially for moral reasons. For some reason they seem emotionally threatened by people who are willing to put themselves out to help clean up the planet, don't you think?

I would have to agree

That often people claim victim status (he's making fun of me) but fail to see their own part in the drama (you are denigrating those who don't believe as you do).

Yes, and it really doesn't matter.

When one looks at the big picture, it really means nothing to us if others scoff. We will continue our work anyway.

I haven't been...

All in all no... and over the past couple of years the public's education has gotten much better so more people realize that's it's a very serious problem and doing something about it makes a lot of sense. Why do you find that people make fun of you for being green?

I've had no problems...

But there have been a couple of times that my twenty-something niece kind of looked at me strangely for washing and reusing freezer bags. I wasn't bothered by it. I considered the source of the questioning... She's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
