We're all here by choice because we share that common concern for the sustainability of our planet. But surely everyone of us has met people who simply don't care and have a strong say about those of us who do. How do you deal with such people? You know those who say nasty things about you because you decided to buy organic or perform recycling?

Annoying--

Is sometimes useful. It may require some painful, annoying times to bring the human race to it's senses. But Accer is right--let he who is without sin throw the first stone.

I'm lucky... I haven't run into this

Yes it makes me cringe when my friend says she doesn't even return soda bottles to the store... but its her choice. I try to influence people by being positive and setting a good example. Sometimes my friends joke about me being so green but its all in good fun.

I've never run into anyone who has said anything nasty to me about it.

Oh that's lucky. I've met people who ridicule (not in a good fun sort of way), accuse me of trying to act superior etc. They just make you feel so uncomfortable sometimes.

Look to their self-interest

If some folks can't be bothered with doing things in an ecologically sane and responsible manner, then perhaps if you examine their more selfish motives you can find the chink in their armor. Forget appealing to their sense of the common good, show them how they can save money and they may respond. Good luck.

Are you sure that you aren't being annoying?

Are you certain that you aren't trying to force your beliefs on others who respond nastily? Take a long hard look at your own behavior. If someone is nasty, just ignore them.
