Environmental issues are in the news today, but do you think that it's a religious subject as well as a secular one. By that, I mean do you think that Christians are required to protect the environment?

From the Christian perspective

Heretoday says that God and Jesus teach us to take care of our planet. That is of course wonderful but a bit restrictive. Comparative religeous studies show that ALL major religeons have a God, but unfortunately the human factor argues over whose is #1 Chocoguy has the best grasp of the issue. The Earth is what really matters in the end.

general concern

Personally I believe that this should be a general concern of everybody no matter what religion you are into. If the we are not going to take care of our environment then who are going to do it for us?

It's in Genesis, at least for the Christians

God made all the animals, and introduced them to Adam for him to name. I think that's a big honkin' clue to us. Jesus says, "What you do to the least of them, you do to me", right before he ascended to Heaven. Another humongous clue in my book. If God created the earth and saw "That it was good" (also in Genesis), I think we should try to keep it in "good" shape. Have we got work to do!!!

True, but...

I don't believe that the Bible says anything about taking care of the environment, and there were no such cocepts as conservation or recycling.

Read it again, please...

From the Christian PERSPECTIVE...coming from a multi-religious upbringing and household, I bridle at the word restrictive. The contention is that the Christian tradition, the Bible, does not say we are to care for the earth and it's creatures; please show me where it says NOT to.

If you should care to notice

the question was written regarding Christians, and I asked as regarded questions.
Please don't call Chris restrictive, that's not fair. It was a good question.

Thank you

Heretoday. I do not believe that I, my beliefs, or my God is restrictive. I just know that religions seem to have been slow to accept the environment cause.
