locally grown apples mean less impact from transport costs.. fairtrade bananas are supporting third world countries with a fair price paid for their labours... but have to be shipped a long way...

What do you do?

I choose to go with

Apples. I don't really like bananas. To be honest, I don't really care about supporting third world countries. I'm more concerned with supporting the apple orchard down the block.

Charity begins at home.

Where I live, both...

I'm all for supporting local apple orchards, and bananas don't grow in my area, so I'd be happy to support third world areas that grow them.

Is there an area with a climate that produces both apples and bananas?

Locally grown apples or fairtrade bananas?

I buy both, Life is not an either or proposition for me.

On a side note, the hardiness zones are changing and a new map might be out before summer's end. Who knows, there may be a strain of bananas that we can grow in the USA.
